Rolls-Royce is seriously considering an electric future and will reveal a battery-powered Phantom prototype at the Geneva Motor Show.

It's called the 102EX, or the Phantom Experimental Electric, and will tour the globe as a rolling test bed for Rolls-Royce this year.

There are no plans to build a production version, but the British luxury maker will offer test drives to gauge reaction, from consumers, enthusiasts and the press.

The news comes as British rival Bentley looks at its own alternative powertrain options, including extensive development and use of E85 fuel.

The Phantom runs exclusively on electric power, and full specs will be revealed on March 1 in Geneva.
